Tourism

Assist with positioning Labrador West as the "Winter Tourism Destination" through the development of a regional strategy, marketing and promotion, facility upgrades, and continued development and expansion of the winter product mix.

Work with the Labrador West Tourism Development Corporation and other tourism stakeholders in the development of walking and interpretive trails and the Labrador West Tourism Beautification project.

Support the Protected Areas Association of Newfoundland and Labrador with the development of an eco-tourism conference.

Assist the Labrador winter trails and Labrador snowmobile clubs in the development of a Labrador Endurance Snowmobile Race.

Work with local tourism stakeholders to conduct a feasibility study for a snowmobile/walking bridge over Wabush narrows.

Industry

1. Collaborate with the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, Labrador West Chamber of Commerce, municipalities and mining companies to initiate the formation of the community sustainability roundtable. The purpose of the roundtable is to discuss the viability of the zone and identify strategic plans that need to be incorporated to ensure the sustainability of Labrador West.
2. Work with partner groups to implement phase one of the Community Investment Support Program.
3. Assist the Labrador West Chamber of Commerce and other regional partners in the planning and facilitation of an industrial supplier forum.

Education

Encourage dialogue and discussion between the Iron Ore Company of Canada, Wabush Mines and public/private educational institutions to determine potential gaps in the workforce from the retirement of current workers in the coming years.

Coordinate meetings with the above noted partners and strive to maximize the delivery of local program offerings in response to the requirements of the industry.
